The prize for 'Best Carton of the Year' went to a decorative and exciting gift pack for a crystal 'night light' candle holder for RC Ritzenhoff Cristal AG, Germany, which the jury felt enhanced the prestige quality of the product it contained. Reflecting the shape of product, the pack - designed in total by Sieger Design, Germany - could be opened and easily reclosed using the special toggle and cord. Carton maker Rotopack GmbH, Germany, made the cartons from Metsä-Serla's 325 g/m2 Simwhite, which was printed in four-colour offset and subsequently coated with an 8µm PET silver coating. While this coating added a real touch of luxury to the pack, it did not qualify it for consideration as a 'composite material' - thus avoiding the higher waste management levy in Germany, where the product was initially marketed. The packs were delivered ready made up for ease of handling by the product manufacturer.
